E-Mail Notice Things are heating up around here. Heard from several people and most are assuring me that they are coming. Becky Ford-Doster and Grant and Gary Issac who apparently lost his invitation but wanted to know where to send his money. I directed him to MSS and the website registration form. Heard from Patsy too. I'll have to admit that I didn't quite capture Texas in my photos as well as I did Utah and California. But Patsy did admit that Houston is not quite as photogenic as the other two places. I told her that I saw nary a snow covered mountain on the flight from LR to Houston. As I flew over the Rocky Mountains I thought how fortunate I was to have been born in 1951. I can't imagine what our ancestors went through crossing those mountains. I also was glad my last name isn't Donner. So Becky says that the Auto Zone has been quite a topic between she and her parents. Harrison street is becoming more and more commercial. If you haven't been here in a while, one of the bigger changes is the hospital situation (coincidentally across the street from Becky's parents). The White River Medical Center occupies the land on and behind where Ms. McGill lived. In fact it takes up several blocks and they are still building. They are getting ready for we Baby Boomers I suppose. At 20th & Harrison where Epperson's grocery used to be is where our own Jim Davis (Eye Doctor) has his establishment. The houses just west of Tommy's Kingburger (that's to the right as you are facing the front girls) are gone and there is small mall housing a cell phone place, Blue Meanie Record Store and Quality Heat and Air (it use to be down on Chaney Drive). One of my favorite eateries disappeared several years ago, The Dairy Dee. I used to walk up there when I was in the 7th grade at Central and get a Cheeseburger, Fries and Cherry Coke (about $1) every day. How did I have that much time?? Anyway it is now a Realtor after housing several food places. The Sweden Creme is still in business although you won't recognize it. It has been completely rebuilt. I have to quit talking about food places cause I'm getting hungry and don't need to eat this late at night. I have to maintain my slim and girlish figure for the reunion ya know. Another change you might want to take a gander at is Lyon (formerly Arkansas) College. There have been several dorms added, a really nice Business Building, a new Baseball field and a new President's residence. The campus is really pretty. Well I'm getting a little syrupy and don't feel very comedic tonight so I guess I will close. Seems we have a problem with our meeting this coming Thursday night at Kinky's. MSS said he won't be home. Where are you going Hans? Kinky goes to car races, follows Mark Martin and those guys. Maybe next week. Well I guess I'll mention that my lovely wife and I didn't win the golf tournament. We did come in second. Got beat by a father/daughter team that played really well on Sunday so it wasn't quite so difficult to swallow the defeat. Till later, John |
