aboutmyself:
Since moving to Jonesboro, AR in 1991, I taught for a year at ASU
English, reading, writing and speech to foreign students, was a volunteer recruiter for
Guardianship, Inc. for 2 years (recruited volunteers to become limited guardians for
developmentally disabled who did not have family), and was a probation officer for
municipal court cases in Craighead County under Judge Bill Webter.
It took 44 years to realize what I should have majored in 26
years ago. As a probation officer, I realized my true passion in the work force. I loved
probation and working with the courts. I started working with the private prison in
Newport, AR on January 13, 1998 as an institutional probation officer for Wackenhutt, Inc.
Due to lack of funding, I was transferred to the classification department and I am also a
case worker. Talk about a wake up call to what is important in life, working in a prison
setting will make you appreciate what you do and do not have. I thank the dear Lord every
day for a wonderful husband, family, friends and good health.
As some of you know, I am married to Tim Fitzgerald, a wonderful
man and father to our two fine children, Luke, age 17, and Lydia, age 15 going on 25. Tim
was in the restaurant & catering business and was manager for the Batesville Country
Club for 5 years; in fact, he was manager during our 20th class reunion.
As some of you know, we moved to Jonesboro in 1991 as he accepted
the managerial position at the Jonesboro Country Club. It's a long story, and I won't go
into it here, but rumors that did go around were not true, and he decided to change
careers all together. As Danny will tell you, restaurant business is a very hard way to
make a living, and it's very difficult to please the public all the time. Long hours and
very hard work and very gratifying when all goes well.
Both children do well in school, are active in church, swimming
and band. Luke plays the trombone, Lydia plays the flute, and both made All Region band
last year. Luke is now driving his first vehicle, works part time as a cook at Sonic by
ASU (takes after his father), and will be in the 11th grade next year. As I stated, Lydia
is 15 going on 25 and will go into the 10th grade next year. I've already got the bat by
the front door to beat the guys away from the door.
We are remodeling an old two story house a little bit at a time
in downtown Jonesboro. The house used to be on Washington Avenue, but was moved in the
1950's to make way for Hays Grocery store. It is a two story Craftsman style home built
around 1915, all hardwood floors, beautiful staircase and a lot of character, and is the
former home of Earl Bell, who won a medal at the Olympics for pole vaulting in the 80's.
I enjoy crafts, such as floral arrangements, and love to read as
a way of relaxing. Future goals are to get another degree in criminology and becoming a
parole officer for the State.
