Classmate Responses to the 30th Reunion

fordb.jpg (11269 bytes) Dear John and Reunion Committee,

I'm just back into my office today. Classes start in two weeks, but teachers report next week. I came in early this morning to check my e-mail as I haven't done so all summer. Thanks again for all the up-dates and fun things you put on the web-page for all of us to enjoy.

The reunion was terrific. I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks for all the committee's hard work. I'll be in touch later. Many, many thanks.

Enjoyed your note as always...I think you missed your calling, shoulda been something in the literary or communications world. Oh. I guess you kinda are in the communications world, what with your job at the college. But I meant something that would display your gift for storytelling.  Sounds like everyone had a great time at the reunion. Sorry I had to miss it but we had a wonderful trip to Scotland.

Have you seen/talked to Tommy? He did get to play the Old Course, that turned out to be no problem at all. We didn't get this figured out till right before we left, but you can't reserve a tee time or cast your fate to the lottery unless you have a group. Singles just go out on the day they want to play and hope for the best. Tommy talked to someone he met on Sunday (arrival day) when he was looking over the OC, and this guy told him to get there early, so he got there at 6:30 a.m. and was the 7th person in line. The starter assigns them to open tee times with groups that don't have a complete foursome on a first come, first served basis. Tommy ended up playing with 3 other singles at 9:00 a.m. because of a cancellation. He had decided to try Carnoustie as an alternative if he didn't get to play the OC. Late that afternoon, we drove up there (an hour away) just to look at it, and later in the week went by Muirfield. Tommy says he didn't get to play near enough and wants to go back with just a group of guys to play golf all week. Sheesh! The rest of the week (Tuesday-Friday) we toured the countryside and visited several castles and abbeys, most in ruins. Spent an afternoon at Ferniehirst, a frontier fortress (castle) which is the family 'seat' of the Kerrs.  We were glad to get home to get some decent food, though. Didn't expect  gourmet but also didn't expect it to be as unappetizing as it was. We ate a lot of fish, fries (chips), and ham and cheese sandwiches.

harmond_small.jpg (1732 bytes) Hey, everybody,

Greetings from Dong Guan, China. While riding in the car between factories I read John's email this morning and it reminded me of good friends and home. Cherri and I enjoyed the reunion very much (we have enjoyed all of them) and I wanted to tell John and the organizers how much their hard work was appreciated. I've enjoyed John's running commentary on Batesville, especially while I'm traveling. I guess, even though we've lived in Jonesboro since 1970, Batesville is still home.

It's hot and muggy in China today (reminds me of Arkansas), and the air is medium. That means the air is so full of smog that you can barely breathe. You ought to see a 'heavy' day. We produce product here, so I make this trip four to six times a year. I can tell you all about 'football' (soccer) in Asia, but I've lost track of Big Mac's homer pace. Somebody fill me in. We're at the next factory now, so I'll catch ya later.

Thanks again, ya'll. Feels good to say ya'll. First thing I taught our office here was how to say ''Howdy, ya'll".

John:

Just got your new e-mail and I will pass it along to Gary. He really enjoys reading them and hearing what is going on with his classmates. I thought I would point out that Gary and I DON'T live in "Cave City"--how were you to know? I guess this is just an Arkansas thing!! We live in Charlotte, we have a Newark phone number and a Cave City mailing address. Figure this one out??? Charlotte, Sulphur Rock and Newark all share the 799 prefix and evidently we are at the end of the Cave City mail route.  However, that is nothing new Gary and I usually end up at the "end" sooner or later!!ha

Also wanted to let you know that you guys did a GREAT job with the reunion.  Gary said he really enjoyed getting to see everyone again and the food was GREAT! Tell Suzie she did good!! The entertainment was loads of fun!

callisk.jpg (12109 bytes) John, you did an absolutely fabulous job with the reunion. I wish we had known back in high school just how talented you really are. You can sing good too. The reunion committee desires a huge pat on the back. I had a wonderful time. It was great seeing everyone again, and for a little while, 30 years seemed to disappear. Wish I could have gotten there earlier on Friday night. I loved high school, and now that my daughter is in high school, I get to relive it all over again. I have told her many times that these are some of the best days of her life, and that the friends she makes now will remain special to her always.

I think having an annual one day get-together is a great idea. I would love the opportunity to get to see everyone more often.

It had been a long time since I had cruised Main Street, but while I was there, I drove down Main and back up College. So many things have changed, but so much has stayed the same. It was pretty emotional for me. I teared up and everything. For those of you who see Batesville everyday, this may sound silly; but it was a real treat for me - so many memories. Anyway, before I start to get emotional again, thanks for another wonderful memory.

Write me-I would really like to stay in touch with everyone.

Thanks,

Karen Callis-Lewis

burdickn.jpg (11393 bytes) Hello to all of you,

WOW! I don't even know if I have the words to express my thanks for such as
wonderful reunion. As always, you all put on a class act. And I for one, thank you so much. I had such a blast and my co-workers are tired of me taking about the fun we had, they are so jealous. They never had that much fun at their reunions!!!

It was so great seeing everyone again and taking us all back to times when things were fun and easy. Although at the time, we really didn't know it was easy, but as for fun, that we knew. Oh, I wish we had a few more days of it, but frankly I probably couldn't have taken it, being over forty and all, I do need my rest. HA!   But it would have been fun to try, right?

All I can say is, I am so proud to be part of a graduating class that has such class, and I thank all of you for giving that to us.  I know Linda is part of this group and she isn't online (Cyber Susie, that is computer talk) so I will thank her via the phone.

Again, I thank you for such a wonderful week-end and I look forward to the 40th.

As John would say,

TTFN,

Nancy Burdick

jonesk.jpg (11065 bytes) Hey JV:

Great time this weekend! You guys really did a good job. Wish we could have stayed later Sat. night, but getting up at six on Sun was going to be a problem as it was. How late did the rest of you part?

Ken

I wanted to express my grattitude for a wonderful job well done by you, Linda, Susie, Martha Sue & Kinky. It was a great sucess, and as you said, I'm sure it is a relief that it is over and not due another 10 years.

Lydia will talk about it for months, I'm sure.

Again, thank you so much and do hope you won the golf game/tournament; whatever.

Sincerely,

Doris Jean

cavaness.jpg (10903 bytes) John,

It was great to see you at the reunion. I had a wonderful time and I was  eager to open up the file you so diligently put together...but I must not have the software to open it up...what do i need? or maybe i've lost something on mine who knows?

John, your generosity in sharing your talents to keep us all connected is wonderful and greatly appreciated.

Thank goodness my son could drive me back to Louisiana...i was exhausted...

Later

dozierd.jpg (3719 bytes) John thanks to you and the rest of the committee for doing such a good job putting it all together. It would have never happened if it wasn't for you, and I know it took a lot of your time and equipment and labor.

Right on Brother!!!

Peace,

Danny D.
