Mike Mullen John It is good to hear from you. We have now both "retired". Alice retired in late summer of 2004 after I had an auto accident and did a good job of busting up my leg. It is a good thing that she did as working for a small rural hospital is really not worth it these days - employees are simply resources to be used up. She is playing lots of golf and taking care of me, 8 cats and 2 dogs. I "retired" or rather was forced out at the University (Junta-versity) here in Troy, Alabama at the end of September - they couldn't tolerate anyone who turned in polluters who might give a nickel to the University so I was and remain poltically incorrect. I am heading up a start-up non-profit - the Choctawhatchee Riverkeeper - a member of the Waterkeeper Alliance - Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s outfit. We patrol the river and its tribs, monitor water quality and report water pollution permit violators - and will when necessary sue them. I am currently doing habitat threat assessment and will be on the river or walking streams much of the time. We hope to get out your way sometime later this year as we want to travel some and will as soon as I get a project finished in June. Maybe we can get a golf match. I won't beat anyone but if Alice plays I'll bet on her as she is the golfer in the family. I haven't run into anyone from our class for some time although at one time a number of years ago I heard some things about Harold Jones at the University of South Alabama. We are all getting older. I lost my cousin - my age - a little over a year ago. When in for gallbladder surgery and found that her lever was eaten up with cancer. My sister is in Long Beach, Mississippi. She stayed through the hurricane and amazingly both her house in Long Beach and her house a few blocks off the beach in Gulfport that she was trying to sell and has since sold survived with only mnior damage. If you saw the pictures of the train cars in Gulfport near the beach and the main north-soith road her Gulfport house was just a couple of blocks west of there. Her two elderly neighbors who stayed and survived Camille stayed and survived this latest monster storm. Got to go!

John Golden John, Thanks for the reply. More update: I'm a marketing director for a home fragrance company in Kansas City. Came here four years ago to do consulting work and fell in love with this city - so we made the move! My work is exciting and takes me to great cities often, both domestically and around the world. Gaye and I have 3 children - all grown and out-of-the-house, so I can now lie about my age! Lauren is 27 and is a city planner in Portland, OR. Suzanne (Cookie) is 24 and a graduate of the University of Missouri in Kansas City with a degree in Art Education. Jack is 22, works for U.S. Bank, and is a Banking and Finance major at the University of Kansas. None of them are married, yet, but lead extremely social lives and have lots of friends. Once again, "thanks" for the work that you and the committee have done to keep everyone in touch - great Web site! Although I don't live nearby, I would be happy to do what I can to help you guys organize a 40th! I'll continue to watch the Web site, and please continue to keep me posted as plans progress. Regards, John Golden *************************************************

Since living in TEXAS for 6 years.....I have learned that the number ONE subject taught in the schools here is FOOTBALL......and they are out for blood.....such a heritage here and a rivalry that pales anything like Batesville versus Newport......thankfully my son, Ben, age 13......a talented athlete.....tried football....liked it and did well this year.....but got bored playing it......He is a BASKETBALL fanatic!!!! Thanks in part to living in the world championship SPURS city of San Antonio.......and getting to look up (literally) to (now retired Spur) David Robinson......a member of our church and now an associate minister....in addition to his many other new job assignments. You guys don't miss anything do you , yes I have
liked Old Spice for a number of years now John. Those
bottles on the table were a Christmas gift, that picture was taken
Christmas morning. Nan, the so called girlie video you see, is a
brand new package of skivvies, or "
underwear" ! Yes, I know , a little macho for a 50 year
old ,but they are comfortable! I did get rid of my "speedo"!
Glad your doing OK now John , bet that was a big
scare! Certainly got me to thinking , but how do we quit smoking ?
Two summers ago I was at summer camp in the desert east of SanDiego on
the Mexican border, thought I was having a heart attack. They drove me
80 miles, in an ambulance, into SanDiego spent 3 days in the
hospital running tests and all, Said it was heat stress,
scared me enough to quit smoking for a year, but started back.
Guess I'll have to get some more patches and try again.
Glad you're still with us!
Will take some more pictures and send them , but will
try to figure out how to downsize them next time , these new
digital cameras are awsome if you can figure them out. I
just haven't taken the time to sit down and mess with it much.
Knee seems to be getting better , I have good days and
bad . Still on light duty.

February 29, 2000 Ken Jones John: Does anyone remember the Osmond Family performing at the Water Carnival in the mid-fifties or maybe later. Donnie was just a baby and, of course, Marie wasn't even born yet. Ken Februray 28, 2000 David Anderson Roy Orbison came to the water carnival the year after Elvis and was treated the same as Elvis was by a local yokul and some of his cronies. They made fun of him and he left the stage after a few songs and vowed never to return to Batesville. Some of you might remember a local guy by the name of Jimmy Payne, who later co-wrote the song "Woman, Woman", and at the time Roy Orbison came to town Jimmy was a young teenager selling watermelons down at the stadium. Roy showed up early that afternoon and having nothing else to do to pass the time he talked Jimmy into letting him ride his bicycle around. Years later when Jimmy was doing back-up singing for Elvis and some other big names he ran into Roy and reminded him of the bicycle riding event in Batesville. Roy responded with, "You mean that town that smells like shit?" Roy had remembered his bad experience with our future mayor. Sad, but true. David Nan Vinson-Tucker Dear John: Enjoyed the picture of John's knee. But what's scarry to me is the fact that you noticed the two bottles of Old Spice and not the girl in the bikini on the video tape next to them!!!!! Are we getting older or what? BJ Thomas was in concert in Batesville years ago. I can't remember the year but I remember I went with Martha. Beach Boy movie was good. I watched alot of it with Amy. She didn't know who Charles Manson was. Made me think, hope he doesn't outlive our generation. He might fool around and get out of prison!!! Love hearing from you. This e-mail is fun!!!!! Nan

CHECK ON YOU LATER. February 28, 2000 Martha Sue Newsom-Smith I remember now that you were having test run. You know it pays to stay away from those doctors. They only hang out with sick people. I guess we are going to have to change our ways (do you think its age?). Glad you are doing ok and I really like your pictures. When I had my gall bladder out they put me in that COLD room. I didn't think it got too cold for me, but I almost died. Seems like they took me back in there afterwards also and I was really hurting and wanting the lala juice. Any way hope you are up and about and gonna get back on this updating business. Kay said you are working alot so I guess we'll forgive you, because I know you need to get it all done before golf season. Bet the new hip will help with golf Expect to see you move up in the standings. Like my one paragraph message. - I made a "D" in Freshman English @ASU because I had long ramble sentences. - Imagine that. SEE YA, MSS
Susie Craig-Carter Well, John, I haven't been online in at least three or four months. I figured out some more stuff tonight (thanks to MSS...I'm surprised she answers her phone when I'm on! Thanks Marsu!) I meant to do this during football season, but never took the time. Our son, Bo, is a junior this year and plays football. He has played since 7th grade ,but had a shoulder injury the first day in pads his sophomore year. ( John Miller, you can identify with this.) Anyway, he had surgery and missed his whole 10th grade season. However, he played this year and had a great year. He plays receiver and something else. He was player of the week 4 times, offence defence and special teams. On TV he was a play of the day (game against Osceola) and also was play of the week on TV. His dad had a video made of all of his plays and loves to show it. Had a captive audience at Thanksgiving when we had 27 people for dinner. It was really exciting when we played Newport and beat them , Bo played well. But we don't think he understood the significance of the win. Pressures on for next year! Our daughter,Carrie, is a sophomore at UofA.... and really in the swing of college life (a lot like her mom!) She doesn't miss athing and goes to class when it doesn't conflict with "goin' out". No, she's much more focused than I was.... has only changed her major about 8 times in 3 semesters! I don't know how to make a new paragraph! It was such fun seeing everyone at the reunion. We are just fortunate that we live here and have the privilege of getting together and planning.....we REALLY do have fun! John, again thanks for sharing your talents. We are all cognisant(SP) of the time and effort that goes into maintaining this. Cyber Susie!
Mike Mullen John And I thought I was aging. Some of the guys have aged so much more than I have that they make me look like a young guy - of course a young guy with a few more pounds and a little less hair. What's going on around Batesville and in north Arkansas? Is there enough interest in/concern about water quality for an erosion/sediment control consultant who wants to partially retire in the next four or five years to survive there? I could get lazy and just want to go trout fishing or duck hunting all the time but unless the market stays very strong for the next six or seven years I'll have to ply my trade at least part-time. Thought I'd explain the change of addresses. It makes it easier to pay
one bill @ Alltel than 2 different ones for Internet service &
mobile phone service. I have a Jonesboro dial-up number which is local
for me.
It was good to hear from you again. I was in Batesville last Friday
& saw Linda Arnold & we discussed not hearing from you in a
while. Our lives are not the same without your frequent comedy &
news! I'm writing this in 18 pt. font just in case your eyes are getting
bad too!!

: Just returning some yack, nice to hear whats up ..
Been making a lot more trips to Batesville lately, my mom
and dad have both had strokes in the months past ( you can't get dad to
admit he has but he acts like it) but my mothers was bad.. she is
paralized on one side and can't talk where you can understand her.
So, no news has not been good news from me.. it's a mess, a I
wouldn't wish what I am seeing on anybody... Lets hope they get
better . you can tell the others this.

February 7, 2000 Nan Vinson-Tucker John, Matt brought me the E-Mail today. I have an E-Mail at home now. Here is my address. NTucker81@hotmail.com Hope you get this information. This is the first time I have done this. Amy has decided to go to the U of A next fall. What has Josh decided to do. I hope I make it through the next few months. Seems like I never have any time for myself. Amy is still playing basketball and that takes two nights a week. Ashley is looking for a job now. She graduates from Fayetteville in May. I can't believe I have one that will finally finish. Thanks for trying to set up the E-mail account for me. I couldn't get it going. Hotmail was easier to set up. Let me know if you get this message. Nan
Mike Mullen Hi John Sorry I missed the reunion - never got word about it! My address is 207 Gail Street, Troy, Alabama 36079. My team, Auburn really messed on the Hogs today - sort of makes up I guess for football. I'm up to my armpits in work - it's that way when you work for a University in a state like Alabama where there is very poor support for higher education. I guess I like what I do or I wouldn't work so hard at it. After being told for years that I wouldn't get to teach (2 MS degrees no PhD) I am now teaching graduate students at the M.S. level and they want me to develop new courses while doing most of the work on and managing nine contract projects. We do get away to canoe, hike and camp. There are some wonderful streams here and in the Florida panhandle. Anyone who is going to Florida who wants to go canoeing here should let me know - if I can't get away I'll give them some good info on some good trips. I'm in the process of getting certified as a Certified Profesional in Erosion and Sediment Control and hope in the next 5 to 6 years to be doing consulting in erosion and sediment control and in watershed management. I looked at a position with the Arkansas Environmental agency but the starting pay was just over half of what I make hear doing the same think so I guess I'm just stuck here in Ala - bummer! Forward this if you wish! Mike Mullen
Becky Cooke-Falkowski Hi John, great to get your email. Please keep me on your list. I'll screen the jokes I get and pass them on to you! I realized I sent you the wrong phone #. Think I'll have you put on the list my shop# since our residence may change soon: 302-655-1299 (Communiques). Husband #2 and I have a fine stationery store, in our eighth year, finally doing well. As you know, having your own business is challenging. Emily, 24 is in Charlotte, NC and working for First Union (graduated from Elon College). Jeff, turning 21 next month (can't believe it) is pursuing EMT and fire training. Not sure where he will go with it, has a touch of his mother's "save the world" sentiments that I'm trying to change! Ryan, 18 is at the University of Delaware and at the moment planning to be an opthalmologist (but that could change!). Leaving for Atlanta tomorrow for a trade show...was delighted to see the class list, had lost touch with Becky Ford and plan to call her while there. You may share info. Will be in touch again when I have more time. Happy 2000! Becky January 4, 2000 Ken Jones John: Glad to see you back in the email mood again! Lately I've had little time to respond, but I do enjoy reading your broadcast news. Please keep it up! When I read about me singing bass, I thought I was having a senior moment or something. I couldn't remember anything about that event. Fortunately, David cleared that up without me having to pretend I new what the heck you were talking about. BTW, we've installed our own MS Exchange Server here, so my new email address is kjones@icearkansas.com. Aristotle is passing kljones@aristotle.net through to our exchange server until we discontinue their service in Feb 2000. Ken
December 20, 1999 Christmas Card from Karen Wright-Weaver
John, I just love you email messages...your letters from home are full of all the important news and happenings and I get excited when I find your messages in my email box. I'm planning to come home for Christmas probably Dec 22 to Dec 28. Hope we can have some kind of Christmas gathering and see each other. I really enjoyed the reunion. Take care, Kay |
| December 6, 1999 John Miller John, Just a note to let you know I finally went to Dr. about bum knee. I have a chronic tear of my anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) with acute cartilage injury to the medial meniscus. I go in for surgery tomorrow Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. . He said it will be an outpatient type deal. Not looking forward to it but knee has gotten worse since reunion , to much dancing i guess. I will be off work for 6 weeks , I hate laying around but hopefully knee will be better than it is now. I had military training this past weekend , had to go see the military Dr. .They put me on profile with a non deployable status , so I won't be going to Saudi Arabia at the end of January. Was kinda looking forward to seeing that part of the world. Guess I better go for now I'll let you know how thing's went . Later JOHN MILLER |

THATS HOW HE GOT HIS NICKNAME, "SPEEDY". KINKY |
| December 5, 1999 Becky Ford-Doster Good morning John, Thanks for the up-date!!! Things to get tooooo busy for all of us this time of year, so don't sweat the web-site. I agree with you, Christmas and little children go together. Atlanta Hartsfield Int'l Airport was the busiest (sp?) in the nation over the Thanksgiving holidays and I believe it. The parking garages filled up Wed. morning at 10:00 am BEFORE THANKSGIVING!!!! Atlanta is top of the list once again for having 4 out of the worst 10 interstate interchanges in the nation. Makes you want to move here doesn't it and drive around all day!!!! HA Hey, I would have gotten the answer to the trivia question also. I just didn't see it in time!! Way to go Vaughan. Well, I must get busy teaching as that's what I'm hired to do. Must give Gwen a call soon and see her before the holidays! Any of you flying through Atlanta, CALL me but I won't drive to the airport to see you, not in Atlanta traffic! Everyone have a blessed holiday season. By the way, today is St. Nicholas Day in Germany!!! The night before the children put their shoe outside the door (nice and polished) and St. Nick fills up the shoe with nice chocolates and all sort of treats!!!! If you've been bad, you only get a bundle of switches and some coal. Similar to our Santa Claus. Love to everyone, Becky Ford Doster |
| December 5, 1999 Martha Sue Newsom-Smith Hey, Glad you are back among the living. That is its good to hear from you on a regular basis. Got a Christmas tree up, but slow about putting ornaments on. Sometime or another I decided it was a good idea to collect ornaments and now I have enough for several trees. It takes forever. I'll give them to Jamie when she gets settled. Ha Ha. For those who don't know, Nan & Illene turned 49 Dec. 3. They are probably the oldest in the class and guess what? That means the rest of use are just behind them. Bah. See ya later. MSS |
| December 5, 1999 Vaughn Blue John: The answer to the trivia question is: Jim Mitchum, Jesse Sims, Earnest Seward, & Ed Jones. BTW, I was wondering what had happened to you. Been missing the "lighter" side of the Batesville News. It's good to know that you're able to tell your mom the jokes I forward to you. I have to be careful, you know, about what I tell, especially at the pulpit! Ha!! Vaughn |

| October 21, 1999 David Anderson Have been extremely busy this entire year, which obviously means business is good in the car rental industry. Please let MSS know that I will send her $20 for the website. John, it is always fun to read your messages, even if you do still have those damn speaker covers. It's that taste of home I need to make my days, though my mother calls EVERYday. She is 74 now and doesn't always feel good but still asks about everyone. It would be nice if she got a call from a few of the old gang just to let her know she is remembered. Your remarks about not telling a parent your love them and appreciate all the things they did for you really hits home. If you recall, I was just 15 when my dad died and I still think of him all the time, after 33 years; and, those things I didn't say. I wish now that I had gotten a chronilogical history of his life from him before he passed away. He wouldn't talk about the war much since he was in the worst part, and I didn't find out much about his growing up days either. Now I'll never know, as his siblings are all gone and most of his friends too. If we had only thought to ask when we had the chance. That is all my syrup for today. David Anderson |
| October 20, 1999 Sue Ellen Lupien Alas, I cannot remember what classes we had together but since there were so few classes to attend I am sure we were tripping over each other. Yeah, I was in Budge's chemistry and physics classes (I sure do remember the excellent six weeks in chemistry spent bending glass tubing into amazing shapes)and trig. That hot flash thing sounds familiar and since there was only one trig/analytics class per year we were in it together. I sat next to George Kramer in the middle of the room and just what the hell were analytics? I rarely had a clue in that class but it was a breeze compared to taking it two years later at ASU - ouch! It is very hard to learn when you aren't paying attention, I find, but so little can stay a wandering mind. Even if we did not have windows to look out of for distraction. The whole high school thing is so distant now it fades in the mists of time with little recall. Except for any embarrassing incidents, those keep really fresh without effort. Sorry you did not finish higher in the golf standings but it is a fickle game; driving the cart is much more fun. I would like to see you when you are in the Golden State if it can be arranged so let me know what transpires. Check out the attached; aka what to do when you are bored, my favorite piece this year and I owe it all to you for having our pix on line! Lordy, do you remember poor Dr. King in freshman science??!!! We were kind of bratty. SEL |
| October 17, 1999 Martha Sue Newsom Hey, Haven't heard from you in a long time. Did I tell you Kay Cavaness sent $10.00 and Linda Arnold sent $25.00. When are you gonna need money? Not much news here. I was off all last week, just using up days. No money to go anywhere. Sure will be glad when I'm rich. Mike has almost got his mother settled I'm not really sure if they will either one ever be settles though. I had to go to Mama's one day las week to change light bulbs. Of course, I'd rather do it than her fall and break something. See ya, MSS |

| October 5, 1999 Sue Ellen Lupien So, you act like you are 18 all the time, well, I don't feel any mental advance since about age 12 so you are way beyond me. Physically way, way beyond but not decrepit, in fact, I am a born again weightlifter on a very casual basis like I talk about it more than do it. Almost as satisfying! Re: our class picture, I haven't been inside the high school recently like since my sister graduated but the last time I was there, no class pictures at all were on the walls. How handy of David to be on the school board, it has always bothered me not to have our picture displayed especially since so many classes were hanging in the old high school. Thanks for looking into this, another fine thing you've done. I live in Concord, a small city in the so called east bay area, naturally to the east of San Francisco (aka city of fun), about 35 miles inland. Let me know when you are coming to SF, we can have an itty bitty reunion. I bet we've talked more in the last two nights than in are whole senior year; this is fun, too. Can't even remember what classes we had together, do you? And now I will say good night. sel |

20-27, 1999 Martha Sue Newsom 9/20/99 9/21/99 Good luck in the golf tournament and continue to mind your wife. Mike is leaving tommorrow to fly to Phoenix and drive his mom back to her new home in Clearview. Bet he stops more often for her. 9/26/99 Hope you and Cecelia did good in your golf tournament. Mike and his mom arrived about 3:30 Saturday. They were tired but at least they have it behind them. Don Harmon has sent $40.00 for 2 months of web site. Talk to you as the week progresses. 9/27/99 Oh well you can't win them all, but it would be nice. I received $20.00 from Steve Henry today. Got my new compter today, haven't taken it out of the box. 4, 1999 Sue Ellen Lupien Hello, John V, Saw your picture with the beard, it made it a little harder to recognize you but there you were underneath, not much different from the last time I saw you whenever that was, and I am thinking it was about 30 years ago. I never even made it to calculus, physics at ASU was a little bit beyond what Budge Evans taught us, wasn't it. Well, so what, I learned excellent glass tube bending skills in his chem class in 1968 and it was more important in the end. You have done a really fabulous job with the website and if you tell me where, I will gladly send a contribution of the monetary kind for its upkeep. Marsue mentioned it when we had lunch; forgot to find out from her how to pay you. Any ideas on how we can persuade the high school to rehang the class pictures? We should be up in the hall somewhere, not stashed in a closet. I think about this when I am at home and naturally cruise by to check on our school, but then forget. Guess with an email name like yours you leave time to play; good for you. Primate behavior becomes us all. Adios! Sue Ellen Lupien |

29, 1999 Patsy Lee-Gibson New E-Mail Address for Patsy Here it is- patsygibson@worldnet.att.net. Now Joey can receive his mail and I can receive mine. It was too much with us using the same email address since he joined the zr-1 club!!!!! His address is the same - joeygibson@worldnet.att.net. So, please add me and talk to you later!!!!!! Keep those jokes coming! Hi John, good to hear from you. Yeah, still got both vettes!teehee My Uncle is 74 and he rode in it with me and I asked if he had any problems getting in and out of it and he said no. I said, alright!!!!! That means I can still drive a vette when I am 74!!!!!!!!!!!! No old people's car for me!!! Florida - well, let's see, the Keys were great! Stayed in Key West and took a seaplane trip to the Dry Tortugas. Awesome, my first seaplane, loved it!! Snorkeled in the Dry Torts and hung out on Duval street in Key West. Then Floyd decided to head for Miami, so we left to try to get to South Beach before Floyd. Well, we got there but they had already evacuated so we were the only ones on the beach. Had the beach all to ourselves! haha it was actually eerie and kinda scary so we jumped on the freeway and booked it to St Petersburg. We were about 3 hrs ahead of the mass evacuation of the east coast, millions fled! It was exciting after we got a hotel! Tried in Ft Meyers, Venice and finally got one in St Petersburg. Spent 3 days there, went sailing and picked up seashells on Shell Island. Made a couple of bars and headed on to Tallahassee. Saw all my family, except my mom, she was here in Texas visiting with my sick aunt, anyway, my brother, sister and I took the boat out into the Gulf to do some deep sea fishing. My brother caught a hammerhead shark! That was exciting!!! I had problems casting and actually fed a few fish before giving up. Guess I need casting lessons, tore up 2 good rods before I threw in the towel! I guess they can be fixed, line was everywhere and I lost a hook and sinker. Well I found the hook and sinker but they weren't attached to the pole anymore! Then we took a ride up the Wakula River and saw aligators in the wild, in the darn river! That was scary too. We might have ran over one of the devils, we heard a big thud and stopped but nothing ever appeared so we ruled out manatees! So all in all it was a good trip in spite of the threat of Floyd. We were originally gonna go to Savannah and Charleston after leaving Miami but obviously the weather interfered. Oh well, another time! Well, gotta go make some dinner. It's Joey's birthday today so I guess I owe him! Catch you later, Patsy |

22, 1999 John Miller Hey Vern, Knew that was wrong answer this morning (Johnny guessed Yogie Bear) , didn't sleep much last night thinking about it , on the way to work thought of Fat Albert. Not much here, weather has been real nice , got down to 38-39 deg. a couple of nights, according to my "Radio Shack Indoor-Outdoor Thermometer". Had a little snow in the mountains , gone now . Mother Nature is teasing us, letting us know winter is just around the corner. Clint , seinior this year , is doing pretty good in football. He plays "linebacker" for Murray High , my favorite position. The team is 2-2 so far this year... He starts wresteling right after football season, and likes it better than football, he wrestled at 160lb class last year and will have to move up to 170lb class this year. He's only 5' 8". I talked to Kinky last night on the "Land Line". I called him first but got no answer , seems he was outside sandblasting a bed frame for the "Cabin" at lake. I told him I have to go Saudi Arabia in February with the Air National Guard. It's only a 3 week thing. Seems the President is using the Reserves as relief to regular troops over seas , could be seeing more deployments like that for awhile. Better go for now, hello to all our classmates who are on-line! Later Man! John Miller |
| September 21, 1999 Doris Hobbs John: I have another English/Southern Slang pet peeve to throw at you. Several years ago when I taught English for a year to foreign students at the ASU CESL program, I had a Saudi student ask me one day, "Mrs. Fitzgerald, what does "fix" mean." I replied, well, Aziz, it means to repair." Aziz stated, "Well, if fix means to repair, why do people in Arkansas say, "I'm fixing to go to the store, or I'm fixing dinner?" Needless to say, I laughed, then proceeded to tell Aziz that Americans, especially people from Arkansas, are prone to trash the English language quite frequently. I thought you might get a chuckle as I did. Doris |
| September 20, 1999 Becky Ford-Doster (Response to my e-mail question about Opry) Hey John, No, Ron and I NEVER had an accident backing out of our driveway either, BUT you're right, about the car pile up on Harrison. It was an accident waiting to happen!!!! I'm not quite sure there are any easy answers to Harrison Street anymore. Opera is one of those European cultural events that very much a part of their life. Yes, most operas are in a foreign language, although more American composers are beginning to write more in English. Actually, an American composer, Carlyly Floyd wrote an wonderful opera called Susannah. it's set in the hills of Tennessee and it's all about the Revivalist coming through and taking advantage of young Susannah and the outcry of the townspeople. It's really a GREAT piece of music. Dan sings most everything in Italian, although he did a lot of German opera while living there. But his favorite or all favorite performers is probably Willy Nelson and loves Grand Ole Opry with the best of them. Hey, what do you expect from a guy from Tucker, GA!!!!! HA Take care and have a great week. Hope Danny's place is open by the time the Doster's get back to Batesville. Believe it or not, my parents are flying to Atlanta this week for a visit and then we're going over to High Point NC for a Gray Family Reunion. Dad doesn't like to travel too much as he hates all the traffic in Atlanta!!! Take care and hello to everyone. Just had a chance to browse around the website and it's looking great. Keep up the good work. Please give Annetta my e-mail address and tell her to write me if she's on-line. I'd love to catch up with her. See ya, B. Doster. I get paid at the end of the month and will send a donation for the website. |
| September 20, 1999 (Martha Sue Newsom-Smith) Just an update on the monies. Jane McMullin's mother brought by a check today. It was for $20.00 and made out to you. I forged your name and deposited it. I also have a English question. People are always saying I'm done. I thought turkeys were done and people were through. I'll ask Ms. Smart, she has an English minor. MSS |
| September 14, 1999 John: It's just the me, the cat burgler.. (hope you didn't mind me going on and leaving the money while you were gone) you got more notes than I do on my desk so figured it wouldn't get lost if on the cealing fan. I came to see the Batesville - Harrison high school football game. My son, Austin was on the team (he's a soph.) but did not get to play because he crached the growth plate in his shoulder the first week of practice. May have to ask Steve Alexander what the heck that is, or Harold Jones. They sent him to the press box that night. Batesville has a good team, and I predict will win several games this year. Harrison is billed to be real good this year, but we're not fast. While I was there, since you said Sue Anne's dad was bad, I went by and visited with the Jenkersons. ( then came by your house). It was an enjoyable visit, and I would recognize Sue Anne anywhere. Maybe you can go out to lunch with her and MS sometime. Well gotta to . Thanks for the little updates. Ps. My dad had a little stroke a couple of weeks ago, but seems to be better now. Grant |

| September 10, 1999 Linda Hawkins John, I'm late responding to the reunion but I thought it was great!!! Thanks to you, Kinky , Martha Sue, Susie Linda C. and all who worked on it!!! It was so good to see everyone--since I didn't make it to the first 2 I had not seen most of the classmates since we graduated!! Also thanks for the web site-- I know it must take a lot of work --I'll sent Martha Sue some money soon for it. I have 2 kids off to college and 2 in high school--my son is a freshman ( the rest are girls) and playing football -- I drive my husband crazy asking what is happening cause I know nothing about football!!! -- I have done just fine when all the kids played softball- baseball - volleyball- basketball- run track and cross country ---But football is a different story ---they say he is good--he's a running back _I think!!He runs through the middle with the ball!! and then when the other team kicks the ball he catches it and runs with it!!-So I should have an exciting fall!! With nursing and trying to keep up with the kids and my husband seems like there is no rest -- also it's even hard to find time to get the computer but I always check to see what you have put new on the web site. Again thanks for your hard work --hope it won't be so long before I get to see everyone again!! I love to get e-mail if anybody wants to write.. Linda Hawkins Cooper

| September 6, 1999 Doris Hobbs John: Received the class picture last week. Amazing how some haven't changed a bit and others have somewhat. Brought back fond memories of days gone by. Glad to hear your son is doing fine. It's every parent's nighmare for sure and so glad to know all is well. I'm still working at the prison; however, I am now teaching Secretarial Science at the women's unit (Vo-tech). So, I no longer work for Wackenhut and am now a State employee, which means better benefits, less stress, and work 10 months out of the year. I feel like I've died and gone to heaven as I haven't had a job without stress in years. Don't know if I can function without it. I too want to contribute to the Website. Will send $$$ once I get paid this week. Had to use last paycheck to pay for a class I'm taking at ASU. Keep up the good work. If you don't mind, when you e-mail Amy, ask her if it's okay if I get her e-mail. Also, my son through away Jane McMullins address by accident. Only address on our Web page is a Dewitt address and she has moved to Pine Bluff. Would appreciate the help in that area. Again, thank you for the wonder Web site; I admire anyone that can do wonders with computers, as it is such talent. Thank you for all you do. Doris Jean |
| September 4, 1999 Amy Standridge Hi to you JV and all: I'm not good at getting on this thing and sending messages. Wanted to let you know that I would like to send MSS the $20 and be Person of the Month or whatever that is you get to be. I will get that off to her in the next couple of days. I'm so glad to hear your son is OK, John. I can just imagine what a fright it must have been for you, having 2 - 19 year olds myself. Things just happen so quickly and these kids honestly have no idea how dangerous it can be. Meanwhile, I have one that we just got off to school (Jessica - Soph. -) who is home this weekend for Labor Day. Our other Joy, Gretchen, is going to a local Community College and living at home. This is the first time for them to be separated, as they have always even had the same friends. Both in soccer and gymnastics through the years. They seem to miss each other a lot but not earth shattering as we feared. By the way John V. MSS had told me you had one at Woodstock the weekend of our reunion but until the reunion was over, I really didn't focus in on "who's kid" was there. My Gretchen was also there. She seemed to have a pretty good time, was getting really frightened toward the end (fires, etc.) and seemed ready to come home. I'm assuming it was your son who was there -- how did he like it? We've been and still are in the car business ourselves here. Our girls had a '91 Thunderbird that was on it's last wheel and having one here and away felt we needed to get them really reliable transportation so got them each '99 Jeep Cherokee Sports We just realized my Sebring Convertible lease is up the first of Dec. and have been out today looking at a new convertible for me. Like the Camarro and Firebirds. (As you can see I don't know much about these cars especially the spelling.) Really don't know what I want. We'll see. Hope all else is well with everyone. Things seem to be going pretty well here. Would like to hear from you allllll! Take care - Amy |
| September 4, 1999 Becky Ford Love the e-mails John!!!! Don't you ever SLEEP????? Will write more later. Have little people entering my classroom and I'm being paid to do something with them for the next 50 minutes. Thanks for all the up-dates!!!! All I can say about Atlanta is that it's hell on earth at 4:00 every afternoon. If you're considering moving to Atlanta, DON'T!!!!!!!! Give me Europe, public transportation and bicycles anyday, or at least a country road in Arkansas!!!! We had grdilock over the entire city this morning and some people sat on the interstates for 4 hours. Fun times in the big city. Have a great Labor Day week-end. Back to you at a later date. Tell Sue Anne and Sue Ellen hello. B. Doster |
| September 4, 1999 Don Harmon Greetings, all, Enjoyed the update. I'm back in Hong Kong again until the 6th, when I head to India for a few days. The China-Taiwan rheatoric is heating up over here. You can see more military on the streets of Hong Kong, and the Chinese government is tightening customs, etc., in a further attempt to make it tougher on the Taiwanese businessmen who have factories here in China. Makes it tougher on us guys from Arkansas, too. The local TV has run several stories showing the military training going on in Taiwan. Some of the language almost sounds like pre-war propaganda, but that's the nature of things in China. Everything has two or three levels, posturing is all part of negotiation, and negotiation is life. Me, I just want to be in another hemisphere when the first missle flies. John, I look forward to the local info and classmate updates. Thank you again for your work. I'll sponsor a month or two when I get back. My Mom and Dad, at Bethesda, tell me it's still very dry, and the grape crop will be sparse. It's weird to sit on the other side of the world, during typhoon weather that's limiting travel, and get a weather report from Bethesda. More later. Don |
| September 4, 1999 Kay Cavaness I was really missing you guys and hearing all the news about what's going on, Thanks for the fix, John. I really appreciate your communication wizardry and will be sending $ in for the web site. I got the class photo in the mail and remembered what a wonderful time I had visiting with everyone and how good my INTENTIONS were to email. My life is very simple and low key. I have a few math students to tutor this fall from 5th grade multiplication/division to advanced math functions and relations. Keeps my brain from getting too fuzzy from all the meds I take for my disability. Going to football games and watching my son play, left guard or tackle I get them confused,, reminds me of all the good times we had in highschool during football season. Tell Sue Ellen and Sue Anne Hello, I'd love to be having lunch with them also. Sorry her dad is in poor health. MSS and Susie what's going on in their lives? Glad to hear your son is OK. No surgery is pleasant to go through but hope it's a minimual experience for him. Kay |
| September 3, 1999 Vaughn Blue John: Received our reunion picture yesterday. Hey, not bad for some fourty-something folks. Wouldn't it be great if camera technology could slim us down? We all looked a little fluffier than we did 30 years ago! I guess it happens to the best of people. Vaughn |
